Barbara Zheng Brown Middle School Obituary, Death:- The Newton school community is mourning the loss of Barbara Zheng, a beloved student at Brown Middle School. Superintendent Anna Nolin described Barbara’s passing as “tragic and unexpected” in an announcement on Tuesday, expressing deep sorrow on behalf of the district.
“Earlier today, we learned of the tragic and unexpected death of Barbara Zheng,” Nolin stated. “Our entire district is deeply saddened and has been in communication with the Zheng family, who have requested privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
Newton Mayor Ruthanne Fuller echoed the sentiment, sharing Nolin’s message and offering her condolences to the Zheng family and the school community. “The ache from the death of a young person is so deep,” Fuller said. “As we navigate these difficult days, I hope that we can lean on each other with care, gentleness, and support.”
To assist students, staff, and families in coping with this loss, the school district and the Newton Health and Human Services Department have made a variety of resources available.
These include guidance on coping with sudden death, tips for grieving teens, and strategies for discussing stressful events with children. The department has also suggested videos to help families address traumatic events.
Superintendent Nolin emphasized the importance of providing emotional support to students during this time. “I recognize that death affects children in different ways,” she wrote. “Our guidance counselors are available to provide support and resources to your children here, at school.”
The Newton community is rallying together to support the Zheng family and honor Barbara’s memory while encouraging open conversations about grief and healing.
